yardcam
I've set up a streaming webcam for your voyeuristic enjoyment. It's pretty cool, it's wireless and has an embedded web server, and you can control the pan/tilt remotely from your browser.
The downside is it's not very web-friendly, so I can't embed the video in a normal page. To use it, you need to go to http://67.117.138.116, wait for the blue & yellow Veo splash page, click on the appropriate language button, wait for a second window to pop up, log in (username: user password: user), then wait a bit more. Also, the first time you try it out, you'll need to accept an activeX control (which of course means you need to be using IE). Yes, it's a hassle. But assuming you can get through all of that, you will be rewarded with a most excellent view of the yard at fredshouse. If things seem a bit dark, don't forget that we're in the US Pacific time zone, -0800 UTC.
UPDATE: it's not working today. I think the camera is losing its dhcp lease, and I can't figure out how to keep the link alive.
UPDATE 2: it's sort of working, try it and leave a comment letting me know if you got it to work.

its february 5 and it isn't working. my dad says its because you don't have a fixed ip address so you should update then don't turn off you computer. hope to see u soon.
niels
ps can't wait to see u guys in hawaii
I don't think that's the problem Peter. I have the local ip addr reserved in the dhcp server, and it's not changing. And nothing in the chain gets turned off -- gateway, router, camera are always on. I'm starting to think it's the camera itself that's losing. Well, a couple more things to try anyway. Keep banging on it, the view of the yard is so worth it :-D
Mahalo for visiting!
