red cross/katrina phishing scam
Do Not Be Fooled: If you receive this email (purportedly from the Republican National Committee), know that it is a phishing scam preying on the outpouring of support for Katrina victims. Scurrilous bastards.

Subject: Help Katrina Victims
|
| | | Dear Sir/madam, Hurricane Katrina has passed and now the people of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama must begin the process of rebuilding. Our thoughts are with those who were affected by this powerful storm. During times like these, there is no room for politics and partisanship. This is a time when we all come together to help our neighbors.
Due to the size of this storm and the area of impact, the cost for recovery will be staggering. For that reason, we are asking you, our supporters, to make a donation to hurricane relief efforts. The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army provide shelter, food, water, blankets and clothing to those who have lost everything.
We appreciate your willingness to help these groups. Your generosity will help the people impacted by the storm begin the process of rising up and recovering from this disaster.
Thanks for all you do. Sincerely,
Ken Mehlman Chairman, RNC

Phishing links removed, of course. The domain was chriedu.com, which points to an oddly wholesome looking asian website with the title "God's Family". Fascinating. What I wonder is, was this originally a legitimate appeal from the RNC that was hijacked?

london
Londoners and countrymen, our thoughts are with you on this terrible, frightening, maddening day. Friends have reported in safe but shaken. It is very hard to continue business as usual, I wish there was more I could do to protect, comfort, and avenge.
Much coverage: wikinews, wikipedia, flickr, Guardian, BBC, London bloggers.
